What Music Means to Me
4/6/22
In my last few posts, I have talked about how technology has changed, how music has changed over the years, and its connection to people, and I haven't really talked about many personal experiences and my connection to music so this one will be more about me and how I feel. I started to get into music sometime in middle school and I remember, I wasn't super into it and I really only liked maybe 10 songs. As time went on I discovered rock bands such as Arctic Monkeys and Foo Fighters. After I found them, rock quickly became my favorite genre. A year or 2 later, I found other bands like Rush and Green Day. I also started listening to some rap here and there.
Up until about my senior year of high school, I didn't really process music a whole lot and the powerful messages songs had. I kind of just listened to it. Later on, that year when covid started getting really bad I bought a guitar because I wanted to learn how to play. Once I started looking up my favorite songs and how to play them I think my appreciation just completely changed. I started to really realize how powerful sounding emotional, and difficult some guitar parts were and this then led me to read into the lyrics more and everything just completely changed for me. Music definitely means so much more to me now than it did then. It honestly makes it more enjoyable to listen to when you know the meanings and you can connect more with the instruments. I don't think I would have really any connection if I didn't play guitar. I would obviously still have some sort of connection but it wouldn't be as strong. Overall music definitely means so much more to me now than it did then, and I'm grateful for it because it has also gotten me out of some tough times. It is an escape from reality.
